Bad or "Good Hair" movie review
Caution: If You Havent seen Good Hair and plan on doing so.... You might not want to read the review....
Don't wanna spoil it for ya!!!
Sooooo let's see...
I finally went to see Good Hair last night. I must say... Yes, it was funny... Yes, it touched on alot of different aspects of African American Hair culture. Such as to perm or not to perm??
Kiddie perms aren't kiddie....Everyone just wants to be pretty... And what a mega billion dollar industry hair is.......
The comedic look into hair is carefully examined and joked by none other than Chirs Rock. He starts with the definition of Good Hair. What is Good Hair?? What makes Good Hair?? Many of the celebs shared their personal expos on growing up on the dreaded hot comb....wanting so bad to have the long flowing hair down there back....and trying to understand why we all obesse about our hair so much.
Some interesting points were made about how expensive weaves..wigs...and extensions can be and how many women will forfeit rent.. Childcare.. and even food in order to keep their hair looking tight.
Tight doesn't always mean right!!
Anyway who.. Rock took us into the wonderful world of the beauty salon and introduced the audience to a stylist that has a layaway plan for her hair pieces and wigs..
Yes a layaway plan...and to be quite honest the hair pieces and wigs weren't very appealing or looked anywhere close to a thousand dollars as a starting price.
He also took us half way or probably all the way arould the other side of the world to India.
To show us just exactly were this expensive weave comes from...
This part of the film was very eye opening and makes you look at the weave industry differently.
Of course Rock couldn't make a movie without visiting the good ol' barber shop...full of men sharing their hair experiences and opinons of the Good Hair question.
There is so much more I can go on and on about this movie.
Nonetheless it was a nice funny comedy. I would have appreciated a bit more natural opinions on hair. I was very surprised to not see any all natural celebs of the likes of Jilly from Philly.. or Miss "I am not my hair" India Irie.
It would have been nice to hear there opinions on it in the pop culture sector.
So leave your comments...
Go see the movie and let's talk:)
Laterzzzzzz
