"This Is It"

Well "This Is It" everyone..... I finally went to see Michael Jackson's highly anticipated movie of footage for his "curtain call" performance.

It's been four months since his passing and unlike many others I have been a fan for years.... While he was still alive..whether it was jamming to Human Nature at my nana's house while dancing in the mirror..... Or replaying thriller on her record player acting like a scary zombie...Trying not to make it scratch....when I changed the song....Fun times....

The documentary/old recorded footage of rehearsals took us to the personal stage of it all.
It starts  with an intro to his plans for the final show and all the preparation that went to it.

Many of the dancers chosen for the show shared there love and appreciation for Michael and his creative, inspiring energy.
Some coming far and wide just for the opportunity to audition.

The movie then continues with different rehearsals....while Mike sings... Stopping ever so often to make sure he hears the right sound.

The footage shared many of the well thought out plans for stage, lighting, dancing... And mini movies that were specially created for the show.

I couldn't help notice how he was trying to perfect everything... down to the note that was heard on the piano...
He wanted everyone to shine and always was polite even when we was frustrated during certain rehearsals...

He said he does everything with L-O-V-E....and "that's why we practice right?"

Love the movie.. check it out. .

Sister, Sister, Sister

Here's a pic of my sisters and I. Kandice, Jade and myself. Combined we have had our share of hair drama. Everything from not wanting to get our hair combed to trying to understand this thing called beauty and what we see in it. As you know, growing up you can experience many unnecessary pressures.
Needless to say, my sisters didn't experience the perm days as I like to call it as I did.

My youngest sister Jade is 14 now. and I will continue to show her that beauty is not what you add, what you have inside and out.

Leg Shaving with Oil

If your anything like me. . shaving your legs. underarms and whatever else you shave. . ummmmmm can be a daunting task. ..

Through my continuous research for all things natural on the Internet. . I found a new way to shave using natural oils or baby oil on ehow.com. It is suppose to help keep those legs smooth, extra soft and stubble free.

Ok so here is what you need:
Baby Oil, creamy baby oil gel, jojoba oil or even extra virgin olive oil
A disposable razor
faucet, sink, tub or where every you shave

Simply dampen the area you would like shaven
Add oil to that area and shave as usual.

Be sure to shave against the way your hair is growing..I don't want anyone cutting themselves.

Bad or "Good Hair" movie review

Caution: If You Havent seen Good Hair and plan on doing so.... You might not want to read the review....
Don't wanna spoil it for ya!!!

Sooooo let's see...
I finally went to see Good Hair last night. I must say... Yes, it was funny... Yes, it touched on alot of different aspects of  African American Hair  culture. Such as to perm or not to perm??
Kiddie perms aren't kiddie....Everyone just wants to be pretty... And what a mega billion dollar industry hair is.......

The comedic look into hair is carefully examined and joked by none other than Chirs Rock.  He starts with the definition of Good Hair.  What is Good Hair?? What makes Good Hair??  Many of the celebs shared their personal expos on growing up on the dreaded hot comb....wanting so bad to have the long flowing hair down there back....and trying to understand why we all obesse about our hair so much.

Some interesting points were made about how expensive weaves..wigs...and extensions can be and how many women will forfeit rent.. Childcare.. and  even food in order to keep their hair looking tight.

Tight doesn't always mean right!!

Anyway who.. Rock took us into the wonderful world of the beauty salon and introduced the audience to a stylist that has a layaway plan for her hair pieces and wigs..
Yes a layaway plan...and to be quite honest the hair pieces and wigs weren't very appealing or looked anywhere close to a thousand dollars as a starting price.

He also took us half way or probably all the way arould the other side of the world to India.
To show us just exactly were this expensive weave comes from...
This part of the film was very eye opening and makes you look at the weave industry differently.

Of course Rock couldn't make a movie without visiting the good ol' barber shop...full of men sharing their hair experiences and opinons of the Good Hair question.

There is so much more I can go on and on about this movie.
Nonetheless it was a nice funny comedy.  I would have appreciated a bit more natural opinions on hair.  I was very surprised to not see any all natural celebs of the likes of Jilly from Philly.. or Miss "I am not my hair" India Irie.
It would have been nice to hear there opinions on it in the pop culture sector.

So leave your comments...
Go see the movie and let's talk:)

Something New: Eyebrow Threading

My sister Kandice got her eyebrows threaded yesterday. .. She has always wanted to try this threading thing out.

It's suppose to be a natural alternative to waxing or getting them razored. She said it hurt a little, but she was happy with the results.

Check out the pics. .

Take a Walk in These Shoes. . ..I Dare U

I get asked a lot when I go out "Why arent you wearing any heels?"

Honestly, I think heels are great! They are just uncomfortable. You might catch me in some every once in a blue, but they have to be comfortable.

Try walking around in these wonderful Alexander McQueen's. . . . . . It hurts for me to even look at them.

America's Next Natural Model

Going-natural.com has there very own America's Natural Model Competition. How fun is this?

Here's a YouTube video with the contestants. . :)

Hair Raising Question: What Do Men Really Think About Hair?

The age old question. .. What do mean really think about our hair? I have heard everything from. "it's cool to have a weave. . as long as it doesn't fall off," or " naw, I don't like women with weave, it means they don't have any hair." boooo not true. :(

Sooo whats really goodie with the hair thing. .

Basically, I have heard it all. Essences.com is talking about this hair raising question today on their site.

A lot of the men asked said they like natural hair. Some simply said they like there woman's hair to be straight.

So what about if you meet a guy and he thinks your hair is real. . then to find out it was fake. . ? Would you be upset if he didn't want to talk to you anymore. . ?

Unhappy Client :)

I found this pic of me doing my little sisters hair. I think she was about 7 or 8. She is 14 now. . boy how time flies. . :)

Everybody remembers getting that good ol' hair done. As you can see I was playing the hair stylist and she was the client. She didn't look to happy with me. . uh?

Love you Jade. .

Just Let It Shine Thru!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was watching "Coming To America," last night had to post this. . I'm sure everyone remembers it!..

Nice little laugh uh?

Hair Types 101: Whats your Hair Texture?

As much as I love hair, I have never really looked into my hair type or texture. I thought I would do some research and find these hair textures just for an F.Y.I.

So of course the Internet has a multitude of information on hair types, textures, colors, curls and swirls, but I just wanted to know the basics:)

According to the website Curls Biz there are four different hair types and each type is broken down an even more specific type and texture.

  • Type 1: Straight Hair
Classified as 1
Simply defined by the site has simply being sheen.
Hard to Damage
Hard to curl
Most Oily Hair texture

  • Type 2: Wavy Hair
Classified as 2
Sub categories are 2a, 2b, 2c, which start with 2a being more curly than 2b and so on.
Hair texture is in between straight and curl. I would like to call medium :)
This hair type may have more frizz than most, because of its in between stage.

  • Type 3: Curly Hair
Classified as 3
Sub categories are 3a, 3b, 3c
definite by an "S" shape
has a curl pattern
damaged prone

  • Type 4:Kinky Hair
Classified as 4
Sub categories 4a, 4b, 4c
tight and coiled hair
according to curl biz this type of hair is the most fragile
describing it as a "Z" pattern
driest hair type
hair grows at the same rate as other hair types although it is a misconception that it doesn't

Of course these hair textures are an overall spectrum of all hair types with different cultures and races.
People can change there hair to make them different textures in many different ways. This is just an idea of what yours may be. . :) Through the research I have found. I am not a certified hair expert.

Winterized: Protecting your Natural Hair in the Winter Months

Well I can't believe it, but its October already. Crazy right? Well as much as I love the summer time. . you gotta change with the times and that goes with your hair too. My hair gets a little dryer in the winter months and its important to moisturize it just a little bit more. I'd say for me between October to March.

  • I like to do hot oil treatments and set my hair with pure Shea butter under the dryer.
  • Try washing your hair every two weeks maybe instead of washing it every week. Remember when you wash your hair. . you wash out all of the natural oils in it. Washing too often can cause it to be too dry!
  • I love hats in the winter time. You know the ones that look like little sweaters on your head? lol .. . Yes. . they are good . because lets face it. .sometimes we don't wanna have to deal with our hair, plus it will help you keep your hands out of your head.
  • Oiling your scalp on a more regular basis is also a good idea. Try not to grease your scalp. Greasing the scalp can cause your pores to get clogged. Oil is better because it's light and does the job. :)
  • Last but not least. .DRINK WATER. .. !! I can't stress this enough. Drinking water is not just good for your hair but good for your skin and over all body health too!
Ummmmm can't think of anything else now .. its been since last years since I winterized. . lol. . :)

Always remember. . your hair is like a plant . keep it watered ( moisturized) and your good do to go!
